Haven't posted in quite awhile. But had to share this shortcut I learned. I use dry onion soup mix in alot of recipes...green bean casserole, meatloaf, chili, stuff like that. Well, the other day I made green bean casserole and realized I didn't have any of those store brand dry onion soup mix packets. So I googled how to substitute for it. Here is the combination of spices I found:
Substitute for 1 Envelope of Dry Onion Soup Mix
- 1/4 cup dried onion flakes
- 2 Tablespoons beef boullion granules
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon parsley flakes
- 1/8 teaspoon celery salt
- 1/8 teaspoon paprika
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
Mix the ingredients together. I found crushing the larger onion flakes up a bit made better consistency. Use in recipes just as you would a store-bought pkg. of dry onion soup mix.
My green bean casserole and the next day a meatloaf, using this recipe instead of store bought pkgs. like I usually do, turned out even better than with the store bought kind. Try it!
